The Enchanting Journey of Radziwiłł the Orphan
A concert for the whole family

This musical tale invites audiences to join Mikołaj Krzysztof Radziwiłł, known as Radziwiłł the Orphan, on his famous journey to the Holy Land in 1582–1584. Born into a prominent noble family of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Radziwiłł the Orphan was a young, educated and curious traveller. His account of the pilgrimage, published later, became widely popular throughout Europe and was translated into several languages.

The travellers’ experiences come to life in a vibrant musical mosaic that brings together dances from Renaissance Venice, songs from Cyprus and Crete, medieval melodies and improvisations, and music from the Middle East. Created by Ieva Baublytė together with the performers of the renowned Greek ensemble Ex Silentio, the programme opens a dialogue between historical cultures and invites audiences to experience the spirit of a Renaissance journey.

Lithuanian recorder and historical harp player Ieva Baublytė completed her studies at the renowned Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. She regularly takes part in masterclasses in various European countries, with a particular interest in improvisation.

She has performed with ensembles such as Chiaroscuro and the interactive performance troupe Camerata dei Folli, directed by Spanish director Adrian Schvarzstein. She has also performed as a soloist in several opera productions conducted by Trevor Pinnock. Since 2025, she has regularly collaborated with Dimitris Kountouras and Irini Bilini Moraiti of the ensemble Ex Silentio. Alongside her ensemble work, Ieva Baublytė also gives solo concerts in which early music meets traditional influences and her own music.

She performs regularly at festivals and concert halls in Lithuania and other European countries. Ieva Baublytė is the initiator and creator of this concert programme.

Born in Athens, Greece, singer and medieval vielle player Irini Bilini Moraiti specialises in early and traditional music. She has collaborated with the Greek National Opera and Megaron Athens Concert Hall, and her concert career has taken her to numerous countries across Europe and Latin America. She has performed at festivals including Via Medieval, the Riga Early Music Festival and St. Ruprecht.

Bilini Moraiti performs with the ensemble Ex Silentio and with the Lycabettus Ensemble, a duo she co-founded. Alongside her concert work, she is involved in long-term music education projects in Athens and other regions of Greece.

Born in Greece, Dimitris Kountouras studied recorder, traverso and Early Music in Utrecht, Milan, Vienna and Trossingen. He is the artistic director of the ensemble Ex Silentio and performs extensively with the ensemble and other groups in numerous countries across Europe, as well as in Asia and Latin America.

He has collaborated with ensembles including the Harmony of Nations Baroque Orchestra, Camerata Athens and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Minasi, Philippe Jordan, George Petrou and Mark Hall. He has performed at renowned venues including the Vienna Konzerthaus, Pablo Casals Hall in Tokyo, Megaron Athens Concert Hall, Sala Verdi in Milan and the Blumenthal Center in Tel Aviv, as well as at the International Arts Festival (FIA) in Costa Rica.

His repertoire spans a remarkably broad period, from medieval music to contemporary works. He has recorded with Ex Silentio for labels including Carpe Diem and Talanton, and has also participated in recordings of Baroque operas released by DECCA and MDG.
