SPANISH COLOURS Saulius Jegelevičius (guitar) Giedrė Gabnytė (piano)

The NESSUN DORMA Night Concert Marathon invites audiences to Spanish Colours, a concert by guitarist Saulius Jegelevičius and pianist Giedrė Gabnytė, where lyrical intimacy, southern passion and the enchanting sound of the classical guitar come together.

This programme offers a musical journey from contemporary meditation to the vibrant spirit of Spain. Throughout the evening, serenity and energy, introspection and emotional intensity intertwine, revealing the expressive possibilities of the guitar and piano duo.

The first part of the concert features Gary Schocker’s cycle Hypnosis. This five-movement work creates a distinctive sonic landscape in which subtle timbral nuances, a gently unfolding musical pulse and a dreamlike atmosphere invite listeners into a world of contemplation and inner reflection.

The second part is devoted to one of the most celebrated works ever written for guitar – Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Its melodies evoke the beauty of Spanish gardens, love, nostalgia and longing. At the heart of the work stands the legendary Adagio, one of the most moving and instantly recognisable pages in the entire guitar repertoire.

Throughout the evening, the dialogue between guitar and piano reveals a wide range of emotions – from lyrical tenderness and quiet introspection to passionate rhythms and dramatic expression.

Giedrė Gabnytė is a laureate of international competitions and a graduate of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she studied with Professor Halina Radvilaitė. She furthered her studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and participated in masterclasses in Germany, Finland and Austria. An active performer in Lithuania and abroad, she has appeared with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and the M. K. Čiurlionis Quartet, and has performed in numerous European countries.

Saulius Jegelevičius is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and teacher with more than a decade of pedagogical experience. He studied at Falmouth University in the United Kingdom and at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, later completing postgraduate studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He has released three albums of original music, created numerous songs and music videos, and remains active both as a performer and educator.

Spanish Colours invites listeners into a world where music shimmers with changing shades of emotion – from meditative stillness to the warmth, passion and brilliance of the Spanish musical imagination.

Following the concert, audiences are invited to remain for the Media Opera ČIURLIONIS: I SEE MUSIC – a unique theatrical concept created by composer Audronė Žigaitytė. Inspired by the visionary world of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, it combines music, visual art, animation and digital media in a journey where music becomes vision and vision becomes music.
