The final chord of the Sacred Music Hours is being dedicated to Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis – a symbol of immense creative imagination.
This concert will feature improvisations by the Polish organist and composer Maciej Zakrzewski inspired by M. K. Čiurlionis’ paintings. They will become unique canvases of sound – bridges between the visual and the musical. This performer is a winner of international competitions, earning renown for his original improvisations and unique interpretations. Having studied with masters such as Olivier Latry, Pierre Pincemaille and Tomasz Adam Nowak, he is currently teaching the art of the organ at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk and is actively performing in concerts in all of Europe.
He’ll be joined by the State Chamber Choir Polifonija, led by Linas Balandis. The themes of works performed by this collective will weave into the improvisational fabric, adding multiple layers to the structure of this concert – from prepared musical scores to music born in the moment.
This eminent organ virtuoso and the choir Polifonija, charming audiences for the quality of its sound, make up a union promising an impressive end to this cycle.
Programme features improvisations on M. K. Čiurlionis, V. Augustinas and organ music based on paintings by M. K. Čiurlionis
