Performers
This performance oversteps the boundaries of a concert. It is rather a page from the living history of the organ, as it’ll be Andrzej Chorosiński sitting at the instrument at our very own St Casimir’s Church. He is one of the most distinctive figures in the organ music world.
In a career lasting more than fifty years, Chorosiński has played in prestigious halls all over the world – from the United States to the Vatican, where he even performed during the canonisation of John Paul II. He was the head of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, released more than twenty records, chaired the jury at the most important international competitions, designed organs in Poland, Canada and Japan, and is still actively performing in concerts, amazing all with his unfailing energy and mastery.
While in Vilnius, Chorosiński will perform a programme that is usually considered part of the golden collection of pianists’ repertoire. This comes as an intriguing decision, allowing the public to hear very well-known works (including F. Chopin’s Nocturne in E Flat Major, F. Schubert’s Impromptus, L. van Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique) in a new light. Imagine as if you’ve rehung a familiar painting – the forms and contours are the same, but when you look at it, it evokes a different feeling. Audiences will also be able to hear J. S. Bach’s and M. K. Čiurlionis’ music and improvisations, revealing the performer’s freedom and the potential of the organ.
An exceptional figure, piano masterpieces arranged for the organ, and an alchemy of sounds unfolding before you – this is an evening sure to leave a deep impression.
