The historic concert of Mikolas Konstantinas Čiurlionis returns to Vilnius!
M. K. Čiurlionis spent only half a year of his life in Vilnius. However, this half-year has gone down in Lithuanian history. On Saturday, 17 May 1908, he gave the first concert of the Lithuanian Art Society in the Railway Club hall (now the Vaidila Theatre). This was one of only a few concerts organised by M. K. Čiurlionis in Vilnius and confirmed by historical sources. On the 150th anniversary of our artistic and musical genius, this exceptional concert will be revived in the same place where it was 117 years ago!
Original critical versions of the works, reconstructed from authentic manuscripts especially for this programme, a spectacular raffle and dancing that will heat up the evening, will allow you to enjoy the evening as it was the first time. You will also be treated to unheard sacred music opuses by M.K. Čiurlionis. Two acclaimed Vilnius choirs will perform an exceptional programme: the Vilnius Sacred Music Choir ADORAMUS, celebrating its tenth anniversary, and the Vilnius Choir MOMENTUM, under the direction of Dr. Imantas Jonas Šimkus. The concert will be topped off with piano virages by M. K. Čiurlionis’ great-grandson, pianist Rokas Zubovas. So, immerse yourself in a historical and musical journey together.
Programme: Lithuanian folk songs by M. K. Čiurlionis, cantata “De Profundis”, etc.
