PIT presents: Némo Flouret’s performance “900 Satellites”
On Friday, September 4, at 8 p.m., the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) invites you to Némo Flouret’s performance 900 Satellites which will take place in the CAC parking lot (entrance at the corner of Dysnos and Mėsinių streets). The event marks the launch in Lithuania of the public programme of the international project “Perform Inform Transform – Participatory Performance in Art Museums” (PIT), which aims to increase recognition and dissemination of performance art. Over this year and the next, performances by five artists are planned to be presented in Lithuania.
“Némo Flouret’s 900 Satellites is a site-specific choreographic performance conceived as an extension of the collective work 900 Something Days Spent in the XXth Century. Created in 2021, 900 Something Days departs from Aurélien Bellanger’s novel Eurodance, a 2018 philosophical manifesto that positions the 1990s club scene as the last unifying cultural movement to spread seamlessly across the entire European continent, marking the European ideal of endless peace and freedom of movement.
At the heart of 900 Something Days is the turn of the millennium — a moment just before the choreographer was born, when the ideals of a borderless Europe took physical form in large-scale urban infrastructure. Bellanger traces how that Euro-optimism curdled, leaving behind a built environment that turned cities into nodes of a “continental machine” — no longer symbols of unity, but mechanisms of transit, control, and exclusion. Némo’s choreography reengages these leftover spaces by building a bodily language of its own: a “highway dance for industrial ruins,” in which the dancers’ collective, ever-accelerating movement both embodies these infrastructural conditions and resists them.
900 Satellites extends Némo’s choreographic and conceptual experiment while opening it to a site-responsive, open-ended format. Developed collectively with a group of dancers, the piece takes the set of movements from its predecessor and adapts them to each performance site and audience, so that countless variations of the work become possible.
For the European project “Perform Inform Transform: Participatory Performance in Art Museums (PIT),” Némo Flouret transformed Bozar’s Hall Horta and Triennale Milano Teatro’s Central Hall into spaces for choreographed movement, and the piece is now presented in the car park of CAC Vilnius.
Vilnius is the closest geographic point to the EU’s eastern border where 900 Satellites is to be shown thus far. At the outset, the stage of the car park returns the work to its origins – created for the industrial building in Brussels, it is once again restaged in a residual urban site. The performance highlights the evident reality of what it actually means to move in Europe today.”
