Painting Exhibition “Student Self-Portrait”

June 13 – July 13, 2025, the exhibition Student Self-Portrait by students of the Painting and Site-specific Art and Scenography Departments of the Vilnius Academy of Arts is on view at the Vidmantas Martikonis Gallery-Museum Self-Portrait. The exhibition features self-portraits created between 2017 and 2025 by 35 young artists, for some of whom this will be their debut in a thematically fitting space. Some works on display are results of academic assignments, while others are independent pieces.

Exhibition participants: Aistė Aleksiejūtė (1993–2017), Agnė Marija Armoškienė, Urtė Balsytė, Natalija Berežnova, Ditė Dobaitė, Mantas Janauskas, Simona Kirstukaitė-Akulashvili, Aliona Kolbasova, Maja Kriaučiūnaitė, Žilvinas Kriaučiūnas, Leonas Levickis, Andrėja Maiburovaitė, Laurynas Martinionis (1998–2017), Viltė Mikšaitė, Govinda Palionytė, Samanta Panovaitė, Eglė Pilkauskaitė, Inga Ponomarenko, Gabija Pritkovaitė, Gabija Ratkevičiūtė, Ieva Rinkevičiūtė, Gytis Serapinas, Nika Shilova, Augustė Smaliukaitė, Smiltė Steponavičiūtė, Miglė Šuterytė, Austėja Tamulionytė, Deimantė Tamutytė, Audrė Tylienė, Nestor Tyryškin, Kamilė Tretjakaitė, Dalia Tvardauskaitė, Elzė Veverskytė, Ieva Vytaitytė, Martynas Zaleckas.

The self-portrait – a subgenre of portraiture, one of the core genres of painting – is a recurring motif across generations of painters and other artists. It is chosen not only out of necessity due to the lack of a model, but also from a conscious impulse to dare to look oneself in the eye.

We invite you to take a glimpse into the self-portraits of the young generation of painters.

Exhibition curators: Prof. Arvydas Šaltenis (Vilnius Academy of Arts) and Rima Blažytė
