Join our free educational sessions in June at the Vilnius Tourist Information Centre and discover how this enchanting tradition connects nature, fire, and legends.

Why is Joninės special in Lithuania?

Celebrated during the summer solstice, Joninės (Saint John’s Eve) is one of the oldest and most cherished holidays in Lithuania. Rooted in nature-based traditions, this festival honors the power of nature, the sun, and the cycles of life. It’s a night of bonfires, songs, rituals, fern blossom quests, and mythical tales – a time when magic feels real.

Event Highlights:

• Joninės Uncovered – Learn about the origin, symbolism, and rituals of Lithuania’s Midsummer festival and why it remains so beloved.
• Nature-based Lithuania – Discover how Lithuanians saw the world before Christianity: how they honored nature and followed old spiritual traditions that can still be felt today.
• Vilnius Legends – Hear the most fascinating myths, from the Iron Wolf dreamt by Grand Duke Gediminas to the mysterious basilisk said to live beneath the streets of Vilnius.
