September 6 is celebrated in Buenos Aires as Tango Dancer’s Day, chosen in honour of the legendary tango dancer María Nieves and her birthday.
The Vilnius Tango Theatre dedicates this evening to her memory and to the spirit of tango that she embodied.
Tango is a dance of the city, inseparable from the culture and nightlife of Buenos Aires. It was born in the streets – where emotions flowed freely, music filled the air, and passion and nostalgia became part of everyday life. Tango was and still is danced in bars, on streets and in hidden corners – wherever life pulses, and where people feel and love.
“Tango en la Yeca” (“yeca” is Buenos Aires slang, from lunfardo, meaning “street”) is a performance in which tango comes alive as if it were being born right here and now: from a provocative glance and a hesitant touch to the first embrace and, finally, an open, captivating and passionate tango.
This exceptionally dynamic show features dancers Alexis Gonzalez, Veronica Luna, Gabriel Carballo, Sol Oyhenart, Eduardo Pedroso and Jade Rodriguez, alongside vocalist Patricija Luščynska.
