Creative impulse: on the paths of Čiurlionis

Creative Impulse is a choreographic workshop project of LNOBT’s ballet company, initiated in 2012 by the then artistic director of the company Krzysztof Pastor. Since that time, once a year, the audience of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre is invited to an exclusive evening, where the choreographic work of the theatre’s ballet artists is presented. Creative Impulse gives the company’s dancers an opportunity to try themselves in a new role: to create a dance composition, to participate in a choreographic miniature staged by a colleague, or perhaps try their hand at creating set designs, costumes, organizing the event and the entire work process.

This year, the project is taking place for the twelfth time, and this shows, according to the theatre’s chief choreographer Martynas Rimeikis (who began his choreographic career precisely in the first Creative Impulse project) that this is no longer an experiment, but a part of the identity of LNOBT’s ballet company. The compositions of the twelfth Creative Impulse are inspired by the work of M. K. Čiurlionis, and the project is dedicated to the anniversary year of M. K. Čiurlionis.
