Miloš Macourek’s Fairy Tales for the Mind

Awarded with two Golden Stage Crosses, director Olga Lapina and the actors of the Keistuolių Theatre, using Miloš Macourek’s works, open the doors to a uniquely fragile and sensitive world – the experiences of a child taking their first steps in school. The Czech writer, author of the legendary fairy tales about Boniface’s holidays and the hippopotamus afraid of vaccinations, M. Macourek’s works testify that a child’s imagination is their greatest creative force. The writer’s texts stand out with unconventional imagery, playful solutions, and unexpected characters that might surprise an adult reader.

“The Long Break” is a performance not only for schoolchildren; it is a work for all those around them – parents and teachers – revealing the vivid, constantly changing world in the eyes and thoughts of a child, completely different from how an adult sees it. At the same time, it is also a performance for anyone who has once experienced what it means to step out of their safe and somewhat fairytale-like world into the vast, unfamiliar, and frightening world of school life.
