“POKROVO VARPAI” Festival Closing Concert “GUESTS FROM GEORGIA”

This is a special evening where two Georgian musical traditions – classical and folk – will meet. The programme will feature works by Giya Kancheli and Sulkhan Tsintsadze, as well as traditional Georgian songs.

The classical music programme will be performed by the Giya Kancheli String Quartet from Tbilisi – David Akopian, Nika Barateli, Mamuka Babuadze and Aleksej Solonovič-Gvamičava. Founded in 2010 by students of the Tbilisi Conservatory, the quartet has borne the name of composer Giya Kancheli since 2018 and is renowned for its musical mastery and active international career.

The folk music part will be presented by the RERO folk trio – Luka Mebonia, Arina Akopian and Giorgi Shanava. Their hymns and songs will open the door to the archaic world of Georgian polyphony – emotional, multi-voiced and filled with national identity.

The evening will symbolically bring the festival to a close: at the beginning, tradition met contemporary electronic music, while at the end, it will meet the dialogue between Georgian and Lithuanian ethnic and original music. It is a musical journey connecting cultures, generations and people.
