During Culture Night, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) opens its doors to the city, inviting visitors on a journey through music and theatre that stretches from the Academy’s halls and corridors to Lukiškės Square and the new stage of the Theatre and Dance Faculty.
This year’s program brings together diverse art forms, generations, and sounds—from the music of Mozart and experimental electronics to theatre performances and open-air piano concerts.
At the Academy, visitors will have the rare opportunity to hear (Almost) All of Mozart’s Songs, performed on an authentic 18th-century fortepiano in the J. Karosas Hall. At the same time, LMTA’s corridors will transform into a living experimental music space, where the Electronic Music Ensemble will perform an electronic interpretation of Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece In C, blending improvisation, pulse, and collective creativity.
Theatre also plays a central role in the evening’s program. Audiences are invited to the new LMTA Theatre and Dance Faculty venue on Olandų Street to see “The Little Witch” (Raganiukė), a warm and playful production that showcases the work of emerging theatre artists.
A highlight of the night will once again be the “Black and White” Piano Night in Lukiškės Square. Since 2009, this open-air event has become a beloved Culture Night tradition, featuring performances by LMTA’s young pianists. At midnight, renowned pianist Professor Petras Geniušas will take the stage for a special recital. For the third consecutive year, the concert will also be livestreamed to seven locations across Lithuania, extending the experience beyond Vilnius.
LMTA’s Culture Night program invites audiences to experience the Academy as a vibrant, open, and constantly evolving cultural space—where music and theatre move beyond traditional stages into squares, corridors, and unexpected meeting places, transforming one night into a unique opportunity to discover the Academy from a new perspective.
