Lecture “The Art of the Shofar”

On September 14 at 2:00 PM, the Vilnius Shalom Festival invites you to a unique introduction to one of the world’s oldest musical instruments—the shofar.

A lecture “The Art of the Shofar” will be held at the Vilnius Jewish Public Library, during which renowned French horn player and shofar virtuoso Bar Zemach (Israel/Germany) will introduce the audience to the history of this archaic instrument, its significance in Jewish tradition, and its place in contemporary music.

During the event, the guest will talk about the different types of shofars, their manufacture, playing techniques, and their biblical symbolism. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear various shofar calls performed live and learn how this instrument, with a history spanning thousands of years, is heard today in concert halls together with symphony orchestras.

The lecture is intended for everyone interested in music, Jewish culture, history, and ancient musical instruments.

Admission is free. Registration is required.
