Guided Tours at Vilnius University

Vilnius University Library – established in 1570 – still operates in its authentic historical premises. Together with the old university buildings and courtyards, it forms a unified, impressive, and unique architectural ensemble in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, representing the history of scientific and cultural progress in Lithuania.

To visit the architectural ensemble of Vilnius University and its Library, visitors must fill out an electronic tour request form* in advance or contact the Library’s Communication and Information Department by phone: (8 5) 268 7103.

*We will confirm your tour request within 24 hours (if sent on a working day) or on the next business day (if sent over the weekend).

The tour includes visits to the following sites:

• Library and University Halls: Pranciškus Smuglevičius Hall; Joachim Lelewel Hall; White Hall (Observatory).

• University Courtyards: Grand Courtyard; Observatory Courtyard; M. K. Sarbiewski Courtyard.

• St. John’s Church (can also be visited without a guide).

• Faculty of Philology (renovated interiors).

Tours are available in Lithuanian, English, French, Russian, and Polish. They are held on working days only, by prior arrangement, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM (until 2:00 PM on Fridays).
Duration: approximately 1.5 hours.

!Without a guide, you may visit the representative Pranciškus Smuglevičius Hall:

• Monday–Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

• Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:45 PM

Please note that the cash desks at the library accept bank card payments only.

Guided tours are not provided for pre-schoolers and children from primary schools.
Guided tours are organized for a group of minimum four persons.
Two persons accompanying groups of up to 30 school children do not have to pay for a tour.
