Gabrielė Navickaitė | At the Crossroad

Until September 18th, the exhibition “At the Crossroad” by Gabrielė Navickaitė will be on display at the VAA galerry Artifex.

“At the Crossroad” is an exhibition exploring the state of being amidst diverse experiences, ways of speaking and one’s relationship with the environment. Through textile works, the exhibition explores themes of war, collective memory, and women’s resilience and vulnerability.
Repetitive manual labor here becomes a refuge and a way of coming to terms with that which is difficult to put into words. The slow rhythm of the hands captures the passage of time, whilst the fragility of the materials, the tension created and the physical proximity speak of insecurity, concern and the attempt to maintain sensitivity. Recognizable forms and references to everyday life lose their usual purpose, suspended between protection and helplessness, order and its disintegration.
This is an intermediate, liminal space between personal experience and search, in which women’s narratives become an opportunity for recognition, closeness and shared experience.

Gabrielė Navickaitė (b. 2000) is an alumna of the Department of Textile Art and Design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies at Vytautas Magnus University. Gabrielė bases her creative practice on academic research and active scholarly engagement – her role as a (re)searcher allows her to reflect more precisely and deeply on what she analyses. Her field of research encompasses the study of memory and materiality, as well as textiles related to the exile of Lithuanians to Siberia.
Admission to the exhibition is free.

The gallery is open Tue-Fri 12-18PM, Sat 12-16PM. During Vilnius Galerry Weekend Semptember 10-13, we will also work on Sunday 09 13 12-16PM.

On September 13 at 1PM, the gallery will host “Between the Headline and Interpretation” — an educational programme accompanying Gabrielė Navickaitė’s exhibition “At the Crossroad.”
