Experiential exhibition “Improvised Čiurlionis Room” in the basement of M.K. Čiurlionis’ house
M. K. Čiurlionis’ house in Vilnius is famous for its special place – the memorial room where M. K. Čiurlionis lived in 1907–1908. For several decades, this room has delighted visitors with its aura and invited them to learn about the artist’s life in Vilnius. But what was he really like? Have you ever wondered what a room from the last century might have looked like—a space where creativity flourished, ideas were born, important conversations took place, and everyday life unfolded? We would like to try to answer this question and invite you to join us in a slightly different experience of Čiurlionis’ room.
The interactive exhibition “Improvised Čiurlionis Room” will bring to life the 17th-century basement rooms of M. K. Čiurlionis’ home, and every visitor will be able to explore it personally, discovering interesting household details, hidden clues, and M. K. Čiurlionis’ thoughts.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to spend time in a space imbued with the spirit of M. K. Čiurlionis, to learn about his creative work and personal life, and to briefly become his close friend, invited as a guest.
The exhibition consists of three spaces:
“The inevitability of everyday life”
“Creativity = Life”
“Peace of the soul”
This exhibition is the author Livija Krivickaitė’s imagination of what M. K. Čiurlionis’ life and creative space might have looked like, and what feelings and states of mind they might have evoked in visitors.
The experience was created using historical material and the memories of contemporaries. The exhibition features copies of M. K. Čiurlionis’ sketches, photographs, letters, and musical notes, as well as reproductions of his paintings. Works from “M. K. Čiurlionis 125” are performed – Čiurlionis, Urbaitis, V. Barkauskas, Merkelys. Performed by S. Deveikytė-Zubovienė (piano), Rokas Zubovas (piano), Vilnius State Quartet: Audronė Vainiūnaitė (first violin), Artūras Šilalė (second violin), Girdutis Jakaitis (viola), Augustinas Vasiliauskas (cello).
