ETM exhibition complemented by an interactive replica of Lithuania’s first aircraft ANBO-I

On 10 May, the Museum of Energy and Technology added an interactive replica of the ANBO-I aircraft with a cockpit simulator for a virtual flight experience.

In July 2025, we will celebrate the centenary of the first ANBO-I (a combination of the first letters of the words Antanas wants to be in the air in Lithuanian), the first single-seat sport aircraft designed by General Antanas Gustaitis. The aircraft simulator will take visitors back to 14 July 1925, when the ANBO-I first flew for the first time. The replica plane is based on the original drawings of the aircraft, integrating interactive parts into the ANBO-I replica. The exhibit integrates visual and auditory elements for the visually and hearing impaired.

A little bit of history:

In 1919, the Lithuanian Military Aviation was officially established. We were one of the first countries in Europe that regained its independence and created its own air force. The first aircrafts were purchased from abroad, usually used German or Russian models. The idea of developing aircraft of our own design, which would better suit Lithuania’s needs and capabilities, soon emerged. This idea is linked to Antanas Gustaitis, one of the most important pioneers of Lithuanian aviation.

Antanas Gustaitis is an aviation general and engineer, who graduated from the military higher education and later studied aviation engineering in France. After returning to Lithuania, he started to develop locally designed aircrafts. He developed the ANBO series of planes, which were produced
in the Kaunas Aviation Workshop and used for both training and reconnaissance.
