The movement-based performance Vienat reflects on humanity’s constant journey towards self-destruction in its quest for happiness and harmony, and on its unique ability to continually rebuild itself in the wake of catastrophes. The creators of the performance turn to memory and the human body as a witness to history.

The title of the performance, the obsolete word ‘vienat’, is found in Danielius Klein’s 17th-century grammar and is a synonym for the adverbs ‘always’ and ‘forever’; it is thus associated with wholeness, permanence, continuity and uninterruptedness.

The narrative of the performance is constructed through movement and associations, eschewing the spoken word as the primary tool – here, it is the body, space and rhythm that speak. Associations take precedence over plot, and presence over motifs. Movement does not merely illustrate, but reveals what often lies beneath cultural layers – the living and vulnerable human being.
