The creative team behind The Picture of Dorian Gray brings together renowned puppet theatre artists whose work audiences at Lėlė Theatre already know well. In 2014, the production The Sandman, created by G. Radvilavičiūtė together with set designer Renata Valčik, choreographer Sigita Mikalauskaitė and composer Rita Mačiliūnaitė, won the Golden Stage Cross. It remains a successful part of the theatre’s repertoire and is regularly invited to represent Lithuanian culture at international theatre festivals.

The new production can be seen as a continuation of the themes first explored in The Sandman: the duality of human personality and self-destruction.

“When a person looks at a painting, they enter another time. Time expands. In a portrait, a person recognises themselves. Looking at a portrait is like looking into a mirror. A mirror gives a person the unique opportunity to see themselves, their face, their eyes, and creates the conditions for a dialogue with oneself.

“Looking outward, a person sees their inner self. Looking into a mirror, a person can enter another world. And these two worlds can touch. When we look into a mirror, we can see what is inaccessible to our direct gaze. The depth of the mirror tells us that we can see much more, or see things in a completely different way, than we do in our own reality. The mirror is our personal portrait of the present.”

[7
["post-237937","event","type-event","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-spektakliai
