\n\u2013 Marcel Proust<\/p><\/blockquote>\nOn October 22 at 7 PM, the Great Hall of Sapieha Palace will host a performance of composer Ram\u016bnas Motiekaitis\u2019s \u201cDreams\u201d, a work for electronics and piano.<\/strong><\/p>\n
The piece explores the threshold between dream and reality. Taking its cue from Marcel Proust\u2019s reflection and a child\u2019s question \u2013 \u201cDad, can the characters in our dreams see us?\u201d \u2013 the musical space is shaped through layers of sound, motifs of light and shadow, subtle electronic timbres, and the resonance of the piano. The composer seeks to grasp what resists clear verbal explanation and to reveal the singular nature of music.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am trying to grasp what cannot be explained with complete clarity, and I never cease to marvel at music, which, while being the most semantically obscure of the arts, is at the same time utterly concrete,\u201d says Ram\u016bnas Motiekaitis.<\/p>\n
\nRam\u016bnas Motiekaitis<\/strong> is a composer and philosopher of culture and art. Born and raised in Vilnius, he studied composition, philosophy, and Japanese studies in Norway, Finland, and Japan.<\/p>\n
Motiekaitis composes across a range of genres and has received five awards in the Lithuanian Composers\u2019 Union\u2019s Best Work of the Year competition.
