On September 29, 2026, at 19:00, at St. Catherine\u2019s Church in Vilnius, the \u201c\u0104\u017euoliukas\u201d Choir invites you to a meeting with one of Norway\u2019s most famous boys\u2019 choirs \u2013 \u201cS\u00f8lvguttene\u201d (\u201cThe Silver Boys\u201d)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The boys\u2019 choir of Norway\u2019s national broadcaster, which has been active for more than eight decades, has become an important part of the country\u2019s musical culture. In Vilnius, the 60-member choir will present a programme bringing together European classics and Norwegian music, featuring works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Georg Friedrich H\u00e4ndel, Edvard Grieg and the choir\u2019s artistic director Fredrik Otterstad. The music will be performed a cappella, as well as accompanied by organ and piano.<\/p>\n

\u201cS\u00f8lvguttene\u201d was founded in 1940 by conductor Torstein Grythe. Today, the ensemble is the boys\u2019 choir of Norway\u2019s national broadcaster (NRK), having received numerous national and international awards and distinguished itself through its unique sound and choral tradition.<\/p>\n

Throughout its history, \u201cS\u00f8lvguttene\u201d has performed at renowned European venues, including Westminster Abbey in London, St. Peter\u2019s Basilica in Rome, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and Berlin Cathedral. The choir has collaborated with the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the National Theatre, as well as world-renowned performers such as Kiri Te Kanawa, Barbara Hendricks, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Ross, the band \u201ca-ha\u201d and Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjeb\u00f8.<\/p>\n

In Norway, the voices of \u201cS\u00f8lvguttene\u201d are particularly inseparable from the Christmas tradition \u2013 the choir\u2019s Christmas concerts have been an important part of the country\u2019s festive season for many years. The ensemble also regularly performs for the Norwegian Royal Family.<\/p>\n

The choir is led by Fredrik Otterstad and Frikk Heide-Steen. Artistic director F. Otterstad studied at the University of Oslo and the Norwegian Academy of Music, while choir director F. Heide-Steen studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the B\u00e5rdar Academy of Musical Theatre.<\/p>\n

In Vilnius, the choir will perform together with Norwegian organist Otto Christian Odland \u2013 organist at St. Olav\u2019s Catholic Cathedral in Oslo and lecturer at the Norwegian Academy of Music. An internationally performing musician who has given concerts in Norway, other European countries and the USA, he has been collaborating with \u201cS\u00f8lvguttene\u201d for fourteen years.<\/p>\n

This autumn, \u201cS\u00f8lvguttene\u201d will embark on a concert tour of Latvia and Lithuania. In Riga, the Norwegian singers will meet with the Riga Boys\u2019 Choir, while in Vilnius they will perform together with the boys\u2019 and youth choir \u201c\u0104\u017euoliukas\u201d.<\/p>\n
