On August 26<\/strong>, Vilnius will host one of the pioneers of synth-pop, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark<\/span><\/span> (OMD)<\/strong>, at Luki\u0161k\u0117s Prison 2.0<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. Widely regarded as one of the most influential electronic music acts of the 1980s, OMD helped define the sound of synth-pop and continues to inspire generations of artists.<\/p>\n Formed in 1978 by Andy McCluskey<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and Paul Humphreys<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, the band emerged from the Liverpool music scene with a shared fascination for experimental electronic music, influenced by artists such as Kraftwerk<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, Brian Eno, and David Bowie.<\/p>\n Their debut single \u201cElectricity\u201d<\/strong> introduced a distinctive sound built around early synthesizers, minimalistic rhythm structures, and melodic emotionality \u2014 a combination that would become their trademark.<\/p>\n OMD became internationally known with a string of landmark songs, including:<\/p>\n The track \u201cEnola Gay\u201d<\/strong> in particular became a global hit, notable for combining danceable synth production with reflective lyrical themes.<\/p>\n Their 1981 album Architecture & Morality<\/span><\/span><\/strong> is widely considered a classic of electronic music, featuring songs such as \u201cMaid of Orleans\u201d and \u201cJoan of Arc,\u201d and cementing their reputation as one of the defining acts of early synth-pop.<\/p>\n After a commercially experimental phase in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band went on hiatus before reuniting in 2006 in their \u201cclassic\u201d lineup.
