In the hands of these musicians the guitar is not just a modest accompaniment: it resonates in complex polyphony, emotion-filled melodies, glimmering passages and sometimes, it would seem, unbelievable sound effects.<\/p>\n<p>Even though we are used to hearing the organ in a church setting, the quartet\u2019s members remind us that the guitar\u2019s connection to sacred music is deeper than one may think at first glance: \u201cThe guitar is not a traditional church instrument, but it has assumed the tradition of the lute, which was closely associated with early religious music. The acoustics of a shrine imbibe the instrument with a breath of fresh air \u2013 the sound can travel naturally, as if enveloping the listener.
