The Chicago Lithuanian Opera turns 70<\/strong><\/p>\n A special and particularly treasured Sacred Music Hours tradition is the concert honouring the wedding anniversary of Aleksandra and Juozas Kazickas. This time, it is indeed extraordinary, as two separate traditions sharing a common denominator will be combined before your very eyes into one impressive performance.<\/strong><\/p>\n The first story is about love at first sight, overcoming challenges, a wedding in Vilnius under foreign occupation, the treacheries of exile and war, fleeing the homeland and the creation of a new life beyond the Atlantic. Aleksandra and Juozas Kazickas, married for seven decades, are the accepted benchmark for Lithuanian sensibility, civil society and human compassion.<\/p>\n The second story is about a unique phenomenon \u2013 the Chicago Lithuanian Opera \u2013 also celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. In this time dozens of productions have been staged, numerous generations of performers have come to the fore, and opera has become an important part of diaspora culture.<\/p>\n Their common denominator is that sense of being Lithuanian, nurtured with love and dedication, regardless of time or distance. The result is a concert by the Chicago Lithuanian Opera Choir and our own prominent soloists, in honour of Aleksandra and Juozas Kazickas.<\/p>\n These voices from beyond the Altantic will fill the church\u2019s vaulted ceilings like a wave \u2013 one born far away but always searching for a way home.
