GRAYSON MASEFIELD (accordion, New Zealand)

 

The young accordion virtuoso from New Zealand, Grayson Masefield, whose performances leave audiences in awe, appears to have been born to play this particular instrument. However, the performer himself, on hearing such accolades, shyly smiles and adds: "Well, you see, at age four I couldn't really play much at all. I only placed my fingers on the keys and tried to make some sort of sound that would not drive my parents crazy."

 

Whatever the circumstances may have been, today his playing "drives audiences crazy" in the very best sense of the term: his temperament, musicality, unexpected virtuosity and stage presence leaves no one unconviced. This claim is noted by one of the most influential publications in this scene, Accordion USA: "His impressive personality and extraordinary technique has won the hearts of the public. He received massive ovations from the admiring crowd."
